So anyone see any benefits in this? It would guarantee that Indy would not achieve over50% and would render a winning result open to huge dispute and likely result in a Catalunya situation, what do you think?
The only benefit is as a fall back option, using the stepping stone method to independence.
Ie. If we hit 95% control - we'd in the future likely take full control.
It's also not got stigma of independence attached.
However - were better going for full Indy.
Looks more like a trap. I doubt that a full prospectus for DevoMax will be published so likely same outcome as Vow / Smith Comission or even more so as Scotland will be seen to have voted For the union!
Exactly my fear - so far our "most devolved Parliament in history" seems to be somewhat lacking.
The fundamental flaw in Devo 'anything' is that it relies on trusting a U.K. government that by their own words, are happy to break international law in 'a specific & limited way'. Caveat emptor!
I've written about devo max (https://pontifex.substack.com/p/indyref2-should-include-a-devo-max) previously.
To my mind the biggest benefits are (in order):
1. Westminster / Boris Johnson is likely to say to to any reasonable devo max proposal, making them look intransigent and thus indy more likely.
2. it's better than nothing and a stepping stone to indy.

Certainly any future "Vow" from the likes of Gordon Brown will be treated with the contempt it deserves
